Thoughts on a Fall day...
On my walk over here this morning my satchel was heavy with a jar of Three Sisters Farms honey. This liquid gold holds flavors of nectar from dandelions, purple loosestrife, asters, clover, and goldenrod, the very wildflowers that grow here along the river. I have a spot on my kitchen shelf where morning sun will show off the honey's glossy shimmer. Over the winter months I will have a taste every now and then. Simply a spoonful of honey, when the world is no longer green, to remind me of last summer's wildflowers in our field. Mmmm...
Now that the days are cooler I've plans to start a new Rippling River Afghan. Over the summer I experimented with dyeing weld over indigo. The soft yellow of the weld was lovely, but I was curious to see what green would result from a dip in indigo blue. The colors have taken beautifully - the result is varigated strands of seafoam green yarn. The skeins have been hanging on a rack in the corner waiting. A test swatch knit up when the wool was barely dry sits by my chair where I can fondle it every once in a while and anticipate casting on all those stitches. As the afghan grows so will my need for its warmth on my lap. The Farmer's Almanac prediction for our winter: "numbingly cold & snowy"!
Enjoy the September light where ever you are,
